Take Advantage of Honda's Fuel Economy Obsession

By Rebecca Worthlin

Gas prices are high! No one will argue with that fact. Even if you're not in the market for a new car many can't help but think about the fact that the "little" cars on the road are making their owners very happy when it comes to the amount of cash dropped into the gas pump every week. But what many don't think about is that it's not only the typical conservative cars that can offer a break when it comes to money spent on fuel! There are some pretty hot cars out there that offer pretty good gas mileage. Honda offers several in its current line up.

One of the most "fun" cars in the Honda line up is the S2000. This is a sport car made for those who enjoy the open road, but only for a minute as they speed from one spot to the next. And it's been estimated at up to 25 miles per gallon which doesn't seem great when compared to the best numbers out there, but we're talking about a sports car here! That's a respectable number in the high performance vehicle category! The S2000 offers both power and economy with the 16-valve DOHC VTEC engine. It even took the S2000 into environmentally friendly territory when it earned a low-emission-vehicle rating (LEV-2) from the Calif. Air Resources Board.

We can go straight from the S2000 to the Honda Fit. The Honda Fit is not a sports car. It's an astoundingly effifient and economical car that is more than fun to drive! It gets 28 city/34 highway mpg. There's not much else to say when it comes to fuel economy. The car is able to achieve such high economical rates due to the combination of the 109 hp 1.5-liter, 16-valve, SOHC VTEC engine and the specialized throttle system.

The Drive-By-Wire throttle system makes the change from the traditional throttle cable to fast responding electronics. This gives the Honda Fit better response in addition to increased fuel efficiency, driveability, AND it saves drivers more money because it's a low maintenance system.

With the Honda Element you get the opportunity to change the way you use your vehicle on a continuous basis (there has never been another car that offered more features, options or adjustable items) but you get the years and years of experienced Honda design culminating in a modern vehicle that's design focus was specifically chosen to enhance fuel mileage and increase fuel efficiency. The aerodynamic, modern lines resulted in a sleek, sophisticated look that provides up to 26 mpg highway.

The Honda FCX Clarity is in a category all its own. It is the sedan of the future, but buyers can get their hands on it in the present day! The FCX is a zero emission hydrogen powered fuel cell vehicle. It's estimated to get up to 77 mpg. Get online to check out all the specifics!

So while we all know that it's possible to get a vehicle that will be so fuel efficient you'll notice the difference in your pocket book after a few trips to the gas station, there are a few options out there that just might surprise you! Honda has a full line up of efficient vehicles to choose from!
